Hello everyone,
I'm a "Film and Television" student, and there are quite a few things I would change in my degree, and most of them are pretty big. I'm going to talk about 3 things that bother me a lot. First there are the classes shared with journalism, which are many and not very useful in my opinion. Of course, there are some classes and professors that are amazing, but it is very noticeable that the sections are very different from each other and the objective of the subjects is not clear at all. Besides demanding a lot of time for how little you actually learn.
Secondly, it would be better if the classes were more practical and less theoretical. I don't see the need to have so many classes that talk about the history of cinema, especially if they always talk about the same periods and movements. Without exaggerating, I have already been taught neorealism 5 times in 4 semesters of study. I want to learn how to use the tools well, and I don't think they will give so much time to this. Finally, shorten the time of the career, although this is more a problem of university education in Chile as a whole I would say. A career like film and television doesn't need so much study time, I'm sure that if it were more to the point with the things it teaches, 3 years would be enough, more time is lengthening it unnecessarily.
